The Bahamas is known for its temperate climate, miles of tranquil, empty, sparkling white sandy beaches, aquamarine sea, azure sky, indigo sunsets, birds of paradise and shimmering palms.

The islands are located south east of Florida and consist of approximately 700 islands all of which having their own charm and character.

The Exuma Islands are a collection of 365 cays and islands stretching over 120 miles with the two main islands, Great Exuma and Little Exuma to the far south east of the Exuma chain.



Exuma has a population of approximately 3,500 most of whom rely on farming, fishing and tourism for their livelihood. The island produces fresh pineapple, tomatoes, guava, mangoes avocados and pigeon peas. Some of the these are exported to other islands in the Bahamas.

George Town, the capital of Exuma, is host to the famous annual family Island Regatta. This is one of the most prestigious island events. The annual regatta is held around the last week in April in Elizabeth Harbour, George Town. The regatta consists of many races in wooden sailing boats and sloops.

The regatta brings Bahamians together from all the other islands and lasts for almost a week. Together with Junkanoo on Boxing Day it is one of the highlights of the Exuma calendar.
